Ratios and Rules
The supervision ratio refers to the number of guests swimming at any one time. Backyard Lifeguards uses the following general supervision ratios to determine the number of lifeguards needed to serve an event.
- Hosts are expected to engage the number of lifeguards appropriate to maintain the supervision ratio.
- Lifeguards will accommodate a 25% overage in the event the ratio is exceeded without notice.
- Should an event in progress require additional lifeguards, the lifeguard:swimmer ratio will be enforced by restricting the bather load until an additional lifeguard arrives.
Lifeguards will post their names along with the following rules:
All swimmers must obey the lifeguards on duty.
No diving (head-first entry). Jumping is allowed.
No running on the pool deck.
Hosts will have an opportunity to advise the lifeguards of any additional rules they’d like enforced during the event. Lifeguards may establish additional rules as necessary after considering the characteristics of the pool and the age and skill level of swimmers.
