American Red Cross Safety Training

Backyard Lifeguards is an authorized provider of American Red Cross training programs including Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/AED, and more.  Each class includes an online session to be completed before a skill session conducted at the host location.  Students that successfully complete both the online and skill portions will receive an American Red Cross certificate valid for two years.  Course length and fees included after each course description.  Minimum six per class.

Adult Courses

The following health and safety training courses courses are appropriate for adults and students ages 13 and older.  Children ages 8 to 12 may participate with a parent who is also enrolled in the course.

First Aid / CPR / AED
Learn to recognize and respond to a variety of urgent situations such as trauma (cuts, scrapes, burns);
head, neck, and back injuries; sudden illnesses; and temperature-related emergencies.  As well, learn to provide care in life-threatening breathing or cardiac emergencies, including choking.

Adult
for treatment of persons ages 12 years and older
Online Session: 2 hours + Skill Session: 1.5 hours = TOTAL TIME 3.5 hours
$100 per participant

Pediatric
for treatment of infants and children up to age 12
Online Session: 2 hours + Skill Session: 1.5 hours = TOTAL TIME 3.5 hours
$100 per participant

Adult & Pediatric
for treatment of infants, children, and adults
Online Session: 2 hours + Skill Session: 2 hours = TOTAL TIME 4 hours
$125 per participant

CPR / AED
Learn to recognize and respond to life-threatening breathing or cardiac emergencies.  Participants will learn to care for conscious and unconscious choking victims and perform CPR on a victim of cardiac arrest.

First Aid
Learn to recognize and respond to an emergency, and give care to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives.  Learn to identify and treat shock; control bleeding; care for a muscle, bone, or joint injury; care for a head, neck, or back injury; and respond to diabetic emergencies, temperature related emergencies, poisoning, and allergic reactions.
Online Session: 1.5 hours + Skill Session: 1 hour = TOTAL TIME 2.5 hours
$75 per participant

Youth Courses

First Aid for Little People
Using selections from the American Red Cross adult course, children will learn to recognize and respond to common household emergencies, call for help, and give care until EMS arrives.  Through imaginative play and use of food and toys to create “pretend” situations, instructors focus on injury prevention and safety-conscious choices.  Topics include bleeding, burns, broken bones, bites and stings, poisoning, choking, and allergic reactions.  Participants must be between 4 and 8 years of age to take this course and should wear clothes to get dirty.  Not a certificate course.
